Though she first appeared in comics in 2001, it turns out Jessica Jones had been in the Marvel Universe the whole time. She saw Peter Parker get bitten by that fateful spider, and she witnessed the defeat of Galactus at the hands of the Fantastic Four. An accident gave her powers of her own, and she enjoyed a brief super hero career until she fell into the clutches of the Purple Man. Despite her many trials she has emerged as a hero, a mother and a survivor.

Floyd Lawton was born to wealthy parents who hated each other. While still a child he tried to intervene in a confrontation between his beloved older brother and hated father with a sniper rifle. His shot went astray and he killed his brother. From that point on he dedicated his life to being certain he would never miss a shot again and became Deadshot.

Basil Karlo was an actor who had grown to old for his most famous role. When he was replaced he was driven mad and became a masked killer. Later, he would be granted shapeshifting abilities and a monstrous form. Known as Clayface, he would terrorize Gotham and became one of Batman's toughest foes. Recently, Batman has begun trying to reform the malleable man into a hero. Will he succeed as a hero, or be forever doomed to stalk Gotham's streets as a villain? Only time will tell.

172: Darkseid!

Born on Apokolips as Prince Uxas, the young man usurped those in line ahead of him to claim the throne. Being ruler wasn't enough so he stole the powers of the Old Gods to become the New God Darkseid. Locked in an eternal war with his brother Highfather of New Genesis, and prophesied to die at the hand of his son Orion, Darkseid became a threat to all who value free will while in his quest to obtain the Anti-Life Equation.

Tim Drake was the third person to serve as Batman's sidekick Robin. Though he carried on a rich comic book tradition, he redefined Robin's role. He served as a detective, Computer hacker, and overall more intellectual Robin. Tim Drake is a character that always emphasizes smarts over guts. As he felt he became his own hero, he added Red to Robin to create a moniker that was all his own.

Created in 1992 in order to bring a little fun back into comics, Doreen Green definitely made her mark in the Marvel Universe. With all the proportional abilities of a squirrel, she may not seem very impressive, but don't make the mistake of underestimating her. Squirrel Girl's list of victories may be the most impressive in all of comics, proving that you can't judge a squirrel by it's cover.

A nihilist, spending most of his time in solitude, Thanos became obsessed with Death, both the concept and the entity. Miracleman was originally just a substitute for Captain Marvel created by Mick Anglo for British audiences of the 1950's, but in 1982 Alan Moore re-invented the character for modern audiences. Originally known as Marvelman, Miracleman went from a second rate impostor to one of the greatest examples of modern comic book heroes in just 16 issues, before being handed off to the wonderful Neil Gaiman for a second re-invention that is reaching a whole new generation of comic readers via Marvel reprints (and hopefully some forthcoming new stories).
